TinyImage
A tiny AI-image detector that runs entirely in your browser: an 11 MB distilled model checks images in about 8 ms, with nothing uploaded.
What it is
TinyImage, published as the Chrome extension Instant AI Seek, detects AI-generated images without sending anything to a server. The model runs in the browser through ONNX Runtime Web, on WebGPU with a WASM fallback, at about 8 ms per image.
The model
- Teacher: a ConvNeXt-Tiny fine-tuned to tell real photos from AI images across about ten generator families, including Flux, SDXL, SD 3.5, Midjourney, DALL-E, Ideogram, Recraft and StyleGAN3.
- Student (shipped): a ResNet-18 distilled from the teacher, exported at 8-bit (11 MB) and fp16 (22 MB).
- Data: real photos plus AI images generated for training, with a sealed evaluation set and out-of-sample holdouts.
- Training: on a DGX Spark, with every run recorded in a training journal.
Results
- 99.3% balanced accuracy on a sealed 300-image test set
- 99.8% on out-of-sample Stable Diffusion and Midjourney images
- 4.55% false-AI rate on 2,000 real photos in the wild
